October 8th - 10th: Split

The main attraction in the modern city of Split is Diocletian's Palace, built in the 4th century CE, now occupied by homes, shops, open air markets, and galleries. Much of the original architecture of the palace remains, including the underground cisterns and a temple honoring Jupiter. Split is a pretty common cruise ship port, so there were lots of other tourists.
